Located on Taihua South Road in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province,the Daming Palace National Heritage Park is a world cultural heritage site and a national key cultural relic protection unit. It is located on the Long Shou Plateauin the north of Chang’an, and was built with a slightly trapezoidal plan in 634, the eighth year of Emperor Taizong’s reign, and destroyed at the end of the Tang Dynasty.

The Daming Palace was the most magnificent palace complex in the Tang Empire, and the largest palace complex in the world at the time, also the national symbol of the Tang dynasty.

The relics of the Daming Palace are one the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council in 1961, a major site protection project of world significance as determined by the International Council on Ancient Monuments, and an important part of the Silk Road’s overall application for world cultural heritage. The Daming Palace National Heritage Park is a key project for Xi’an urban construction, large heritage sites protection and people’s livelihood improvement, which makes the site area a growth pole for the leading, balanced and scientific development of Xi’an. Daming Palace also serves as an ecological foundation for Xi’an’s future urban development, and it is the most significant cultural symbol, as well as an important support for enhancing Xi’an’s urban characteristics as an ancient capital of civilization in the world.

On June 22, 2014, at the 38th UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting held in Doha, Qatar, the Daming Palace site in Chang’an of Tang Dynasty was successfully on the world heritage list as a site in the “Silk Road: The road network of Chang’an Tianshan corridor” jointly applied by China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
